Brazil and Vietnam grow most coffee beans

Your morning cup is a trade story — not a single origin.

Your morning cup is a trade story, not a single origin. In 2026, Brazil grows 35% of the world's coffee and Vietnam 17% — together more than half of global production, per ICO data. Colombia, Ethiopia and other origins supply the remaining 48%, so weather, prices and export shifts in a few countries ripple into every cup.

Context

The shares come from International Coffee Organization (ICO) figures on global coffee production. The ICO's August 2026 Coffee Market Report put its composite indicator price at 287.29 US cents per pound, with favourable rainfall in Brazil easing upward pressure after a mid-month rally driven by tight Arabica supplies.

Trade flows underline the concentration: world coffee exports reached 12.23 million bags in July 2026, up from 11.84 million a year earlier. Over the twelve months to July, Robusta exports grew while Arabica slipped, and supply shocks in the top two producers moved prices — severe flooding in Vietnam added upward pressure in late 2025, while improved Brazilian supply expectations eased it.

Coffee provides income for around 12.5 million farming families worldwide, according to the ICO, so the split between Brazil, Vietnam and the rest maps onto livelihoods as much as volumes.
