Context
The World Inequality Report 2022, published by the World Inequality Lab, estimates that the richest 1% of adults hold about 38% of global household wealth, and the next 9% hold another 38%. The middle 40% hold 22%, which leaves the poorest half of the world's adults with 2%.
The figures describe 2022. Set against a global total of roughly $450 trillion in household wealth, the top 10% of adults control about three-quarters of the stock, while the entire bottom half shares a fiftieth of it.
